One fall afternoon a group of ruffed grouse came a-calling, and a male walked right past our wood pile. The similarity in colors between his and the wood gave me the inspiration for the painting. From a distance, one sees the wood pile first and then notices the grouse. Once you see the grouse, you can’t un-see him and he stands out.
