Of all the game birds, the Ring-necked pheasant is clearly the most beautiful in North America. This Asian species was first introduced to California in 1857 and its popularity encouraged larger introductions elsewhere. The pheasant is also one of the trickiest birds to paint. Capturing the iridescent colors of the head is particularly important to the accurate rendering of this striking bird.
