One of the joys I have in painting is spending time in the wild gathering my research material. The trips I have taken to northern Manitoba have been some of my favorites. Close encounters with polar bear are hard to beat. I saw this bear in a remote area 60 km north of Churchill. I thought he wouldn't mind if I relocated him to the iconic Canadian Shield intermediate-banded gneiss that surround Churchill on this stretch of Hudson Bay.
