When I was named the SCIF Conservation Artist of the Year for 2014, I knew I wanted to paint a very special piece. From my time in the remote northern part of Labrador came the inspiration. I had numerous close encounters with caribou and decided to capture that experience in the Boreal Forest. With a vast wilderness expanse to portray, the painting had to be large.

The title seemed to fit the standoff where the smaller bull is clearly Outgunned.
