The Inuktitut name for caribou is Tuktu. My first encounter with caribou in the wild was in a remote part of northern Labrador. This slice of Labrador included tundra and boreal forest. My favorite day included an 11-hour hike and I was rewarded with seeing a large herd passing by as close as 20 feet.
